Morphed Portraits

Blog Post 6- Photographer for Emulation

I choose the photographer David Hilliard to emulate for this project more specifically the years 2006-2010. As soon as I saw his images I was in love with his work. I think what drew me into his work so quickly was how he took and chose to present his pictures as panoramic like and presented them as diptychs, triptychs and what ever they are called when they are bigger the triptychs. I have never seen this done prior to Jill showing us her book of his and it had me swooning over his photography in an instant. Not only did his way he choose to shoot his photographs but the intimacy you feel looking at his photographs really moves you.

I feel as he really enjoys capturing and conserving everyday interactions between family, people and the environment in a candid like way and I really connected with that as well. I personally enjoy photographing the environment and enjoy capturing how it is as we watch it change overtime. Capturing that moment that can change in an instant has a very powerful impact on me and I feel that David Hilliard has the same feeling that I do and he portrays it well in his photographs. As I continued to look at his images he does carry on with a theme other than trying to catch the everyday moments of someone or something in the world and that is lighting. He typically has his lighting coming from the front of the photograph. Whether its from a window, artificial lighting or the natural light it usually all comes from the same direction. I am really excited for this project and I cannot wait to see my final images!
